DIY Liquid Laundry Soap Recipe
There are many reasons a person would want to make their laundry soap: saving money, knowing what is washing their laundry, less chemicals, and sensitivities or allergies, to name a few. It is empowering knowing what you are putting on your body and what goes into your laundry detergent.
I have been making my laundry soap for over a decade. I wanted to share my goto recipe. It is simple and it does take a little bit of work, but it lasts for months.
Tips before you begin:
- Use a food processor to grate the soap beforehand. You can then store the extra soap flakes in a container for later use in other recipes.
- Reuse an old liquid laundry detergent container. I use an old 1.5-gallon container with a scent-free laundry detergent, that I washed well before use.
Holistic Living Recipe: DIY Laundry Soap
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 gallon container (reused from a scent-free laundry product)
- 3/4 cup grated soap (Fels Naptha soap)
- 1/4 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
- 1/4 cup Borax
- Water
Instructions:
- Grate the bar of Fels Naptha soap using a food processor and store the rest in a Ziplock baggie for future use.
- Heat 6 cups of water on the stovetop, add the grated soap, and heat until the soap is dissolved. Set aside and allow to cool.
- In the container, add 2 cups of water, then add the borax and washing soda, and blend (you can add the top of the container and shake).
- Add the water and soap mixture to the container, then fill the rest with water. Mix well by shaking the container.
- Before each use, shake the container well. Use approximately 1/4 cup per load and adjust accordingly.
It is my sincerest wish that this recipe helps you to empower yourself. Please take this step towards a more holistic lifestyle and enjoy the benefits of cleaner and more gentle laundry care.
